Senior Slide Customization Tutorial
Congratulations, Class of 2026! It’s time to put the finishing touches on your graduation slides. This is your space to show a bit of personality while keeping the presentation looking professional and cohesive.
1. Find Your Slide
Before you edit anything, ensure you are in the correct spot!
- Open the Presentation: Access the group presentation design.
- View All Pages: Use the thumbnail view at the bottom of the Canva editor to see all the slides at once.
- Find Your Name: Scan the slides until you find the single slide with your name on it (e.g., "Name: Sara Smith").
Work ONLY on Your Slide: Click on your thumbnail to select it. As shown in point #1 of the checklist, it is essential that you only work on your specific assigned slide.
2. Add Personal Photos and Quotes
This is how you make your slide unique and introduce yourself to the audience.
How to Add Photos:
- Go to Uploads: In the left-hand sidebar of the Canva editor, click on the Uploads tab (look for the cloud icon).
- Upload Files: Click the "Upload files" button to select photos from your computer or phone. Upload baby photos, pictures with friends, or special family memories.
- Place on Slide: Once uploaded, simply click and drag your photo onto your slide. You can resize and reposition it.
How to Add an Inspiring Quote:
- Go to Text: Click on the Text tab in the left-hand sidebar.
- Add a Text Box: Click "Add a text box" to create a new text element on your slide.
- Write Your Message: Type in your favorite motto, a "thank you" to family, or a short message. Place it where it looks best.
3. Ensure Content is Appropriate
Please select content that is suitable for all ages. Graduation is a celebratory event attended by families, faculty, and administrators.
- Review Photos: Before using a photo, ask yourself: "Is this something my grandparent, teacher, or younger sibling should see?" Ensure all pictures are respectful and G-rated.
- Check Texts: Verify that any quotes, text messages, or captions are clear of any inappropriate language or implications.
- Use Good Judgment: If you are unsure if something is appropriate, it’s best not to include it.
4. Apply Animations
Add subtle movement to make your slide more dynamic using the 'Animate' button mentioned in point #4.
- Select an Element: Click on a photo, a text box, or a group of items that you want to animate.
- Click Animate: In the top toolbar, above the editor, click the Animate button.
- Choose an Effect: A sidebar will open showing various "Page Animations" and "Element Animations" (e.g., Rise, Pan, Drift). Hover over each option to see a preview.
Quick Canva Tricks
- Layering: If an image accidentally covers your name, right-click it and select Layer > Send to Back.
- Resizing: Click and drag the corners of your images to fit them neatly in the open spaces.
- Saving: Canva saves automatically! You can simply close the tab when you're done.
